‘Kaboom’ wins first ‘Queer Palm’

Posted by Celyn on May 23, 2010 • News & Articles

Supernatural teen comedy Kaboom has been named the winner of the first ever ‘Queer Palm’ at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

The Gregg Araki-directed film stars Thomas Dekker, Haley Bennett, Juno Temple and Chris Zylka and features straight, gay, lesbian and bisexual sex scenes.

Akari issued a statement which read: “I was so deeply honoured and humbled when I learned Kaboom had been chosen to participate in this year’s Main Selection.

“Like the protagonist of my movie, I was a Film Studies major in college and I never even dreamed that one day a film of mine might show in the Palais where all the legendary auteurs I’ve admired and idolised over the years have screened their films. To win the festival’s first ‘Queer Palm’ award on top of all this is almost beyond belief!”

The Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau sponsored prize was awarded last night at the Cannes’ Zanzibar venue, reportedly the oldest gay bar in Europe.

Juno Temple May Join THE THREE MUSKETEERS Movie

Posted by Celyn on May 21, 2010 • News & Articles

Actress Juno Temple is looking for a role in the remake of “The Three Musketeers.” The British actress is negotiating to play the queen in the new 3D version of “The Three Musketeers”. The up and coming independent film star is twenty-one and would appear with Logan Lerman, Luke Evans, Christoph Waltz, and Milla Jovovich.

Lerman is slated to play D’Artagnan, while Evans, Ray Stevenson, and Matthew Macfayden will play his friends, as The Three Musketeers

Paul W.S. Anderson will be producing and directing the remake of the classic tale, which starts shooting in September.

Temple and Jovovich just finished filming of “Dirty Girl.” Temple has been busy. She appeared with Ben Stiller in “Greenberg,” and also finished filming the independent film, “Goodnight Moon.” Temple is scheduled to start filming another independent film, “Jack & Diane.”

“Year One” DVD Extras

Posted by Celyn on May 19, 2010 • Gallery

I finally got my hands on a copy of Year One, and so all the DVD extras have finally been capped and added to the gallery, including an alternate ending which features a lot more of Juno!

In other news, it looks as though Goodnight Moon has been renamed as Little Birds, and that AnnaSophia Robb has been replaced by Kay Panabaker. Also, Kaboom premiered at Cannes this weekend, but unfortunately Juno did not attend – most likely as she’s still in the US filming Dirty Girls. Hopefully she’ll make a public appearance soon!

High Resolution Images for Kirsten Dunst’s Short Film BASTARD

Posted by Celyn on May 19, 2010 • Gallery

Kirsten Dunst’s short film Bastard will be premiering on the closing night of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and two high-resolution images from the film have come online. Co-written and directed by Dunst, here’s what she said about her movie:

“This film explores what makes the unbelievable believable. When we hear a story that seems mysterious or far-fetched, we put more trust in its accuracy the longer ago it took place. As the centuries pass, the truth becomes more malleable. We grow less skeptical of what we might otherwise dismiss as incredible. Our perspective changes. This film addresses the eerie transformation of a familiar myth when displaced to the present.”

Bastard stars Brian Geraghty, Juno Temple, Lukas Haas, Joel David, Moore Lee, Thompson Young, and L.M. Kit Carson.

WestEnd soars with Little Birds starring Juno Temple

Posted by Celyn on May 17, 2010 • Film, News & Articles

Up and coming actresses Juno Temple and Jay Panabaker are attached to star in the lead roles.

London-based sales outfit WestEnd Films is taking wing with new US-set project Little Birds. It plans to start sales in Cannes.

The new project, which is currently shooting in Los Angeles, sees WestEnd joining forces with producer Jamie Patricof (Blue Valentine, Half Nelson) and Alan and Gabe Polsky (Bad Lieutenant). Kevin Iwashina of IP Advisors is handling domestic rights, while WestEnd is handling international sales.

US-set Little Birds is the first feature from Elgin James, a formerly homeless gang leader turned writer-director whose script passed through the Sundance lab. It tells the story of two young girls living in a dead- end town, who try to escape their boring lives by running away to Los Angeles with a group of charismatic street kids.

“I grew up suffocating in a small rural town, longing for the rush and chaos of the city. When I finally made it out, I ended up homeless and in a gang. I believe I survived the streets to tell this story, hoping to mine the ghosts of John Ford and George Stevens and weave a classic adventure of two modern day fifteen-year old girls,” James said.

Upcoming talents Juno Temple (Kaboom, Dirty Girl, Atonement) and Kay Panabaker (Fame, Nancy Drew) are attached in the two leads. Leslie Mann (Knocked Up), Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns), Kyle Gallner (Jennifer’s Body, Nightmare On Elm Street), Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives, Band of Brothers), Chris Coy (True Blood) and Carlos Pena (Big Time Rush) are also in the cast.

“Elgin James has a rare combination of creative talent and unmatched personal experience that come together to make a strong and moving first feature,’ producer Patricof said. ‘He brings a different perspective to the film making community that I have never seen before.’
